Fields of True Date Palms. I will be able to tell you the difference between True Date Palms so next time you are in the market, you will not be taken for a joke. These Phoenix Dactylifera's are True Medjool Date Palms that have not yet been given a cut.
April 7th, 2009The Deglet noor Date Palm is the more common of the Date Palms. They are less expensive then both the Medjool and the Zahidi Date Palms. The Deglet noor produce a less dense canopy and seems to be less tolerant of many diseases but survives transplant very well.
One of my favorite Date Palms. The more tropical in appearance is the stunning Medjool Date Palm. Medjool Date Palms have a heavier canopy with silvery green to dark green fronds with wide leaflets. Cold tolerant to zone 20 degrees F.
Another one of my favorite Date Palms. The Zahidi Date Palm has a thick canopy of silvery green to dark green leaves. Fronds are more visibly upright then in other date palms and the canopies tend to be very dense. High salttolerance.
A robust Date Palm with a trunk similar in diameter to that of a Phoenix canariensis some 24"-32". Leaflets are a silverish green color and fruit is one of the sweetest and most flavorful of them all and edible in all three stages of maturity.
